The 80s was the wildest and freakiest musical eras of all, coming close to the rock‘n’roll era of the 50s. Popular culture of the 80s is most revived and remembered as arguably some of the best music and film was born of this time. This era gave rise to renowned artists like Michael Jackson, Duran Duran, Madonna and Culture Club. Films like “The Breakfast Club” and “Dirty Dancing” are still popular to this day.

It was a very fashion-heavy period with music videos on MTV influencing a lot of hairstyles and fashion looks. Boys wanted to be like Michael and girls wanted to be like Madonna. The 80s was all about bold colours, permed hair, ripped tights and oversized blazers. 1980s fashion for men included acid washed jeans, denim jackets, parachute pants, high top shoes and T-shirts. Women's fashion made popular from this time were jelly shoes, neon clothing, leg warmers, shoulder pads and Guess jeans. Everything about the 80s was large: oversized sweaters, big gaudy jewellery, puffy hair, long and dangly earrings.

If you are thinking of some fancy dress 80s costumes, just remember to live it large. The 80s was no time for subtlety. Look to your favourite 80s music video hits for inspiration - dress up as the virgin bride Madonna, put on a rockstar mullet wig or a woman’s groupie hair wig. Dress up as a Valley girl. Fingerless fishnet gloves were also huge in those days, so you can match this up with a pair of leg warmers and neon tights. Put on some denim and make sure that hair is big! Whatever your choice of wear, the music is the best thing you will be experiencing in this 80s themed party.
