The Official Oktoberfest Mascot in the Kitchener-Waterloo community is a big loveable orange character who you will find walking around at the Oktoberfest celebrations. His name is Onkel Hans representing Oktoberfest around communities of North America. He is worn on buttons, steins, t-shirts, pins and other souvenirs. Created in 1974, Onkel Hans has become the symbol of the spirit of the festival due to his warm smiling face that greets everyone with a wink.

In other places, the best way to become a mascot at Oktoberfest is by wearing a giant beer bottle or pint costume. There is no better way to please a crowd than to represent the thing they are celebrating or consuming. Wearing a giant beer bottle labelled “Genuine Premium Beer” or a “Happy Oktoberfest” pint is more common for the typical clown-type personality who just loves to be the centre of attention and be strikingly different to everyone else. They are the life of the party and the first person to perhaps get drunk and pass out! Add a bit more garnish to your mascot by holding a fake rubber pretzel.

Another option for funny men is to wear a beer maid costume with a woman’s braided wig. This is the best way to stir a few laughs and make for great photo opportunities. Wearing an Oktoberfest mascot costume is more of a way to get into the spirit of the festivities. After all, Oktoberfest is really a wild 16-day celebration of dancing and excessive beer drinking. Everyone else will be in a Lederhosen or a Dirndl, so why not stand out from the crowd and live a little? You will be sure to have a thrilling time as a mascot as you gather plenty of attention and have lots of stories to tell from your experience.
